It’s been a beautiful week and students have been enjoying being outdoors and playing on the playground. There is a lot of laughter and fun at Windsor Park School!

Universal Screeners

Our Grade 1 to 3 students are currently taking part in literacy and numeracy early years assessments with their teachers. These assessments help us understand what each child already knows and guide us in planning the next steps in their learning journey for the year.

While we won’t be sending out formal reports with the results, we will share this information with you during upcoming learning conferences so you can stay informed about your child’s progress.

Kindergarten students will have their assessments in January.

To help you understand these assessments better, please take a moment to read our ‘Understanding Universal Screeners’ flat sheet.

Walking Trips

The area around Windsor Park has incredible opportunities for real-life learning and outdoor experiences. Please read our walking letter.

Volunteers

We will be looking for volunteers next month for different projects and outdoor activities. Please consider signing up for a clearance through the CBE link.

or coming to the office to begin the application process. If you already completed a clearance at another school, come to the office and we will have it transferred. Any parents that have already been cleared need to complete the Annual Volunteer Registration Form.

Back to School Picnic

Windsor Park is hosting our first back to school picnic on September 24 in our school yard. Families can come anytime between 5 and 6 with their own food for a picnic. Please bring your own chairs. A freezie treat will be provided and the main school will be open for washrooms (not the gym). Anytime after 6pm classroom doors will be open for students and parents to come and see their teacher and look at some of their first pieces of work. This is an informal come-and-go. Doors will close at 7pm

Looking Ahead

Terry Fox Run

Windsor Park School will be participating in the Terry Fox run and fundraising campaign on Oct. 2. We are grateful for online donations and will be celebrating our efforts. Teachers will be discussing Terry Fox (age appropriate) with students to develop empathy, understand resilience, and recognize what this Canadian hero?

School Council

We are excited to create a new School Council for Windsor Park School. All parents are automatically part of a school council and welcome to attend any council meetings. On October 8 from 6-7:30pm we will be having a workshop hosted by ASCA (Alberta School Council Association) to learn about the role of a school council and discuss roles. There will be lots of opportunities for parents to share in building our school culture, a sense of belonging, and a community of caring individuals. More information will be coming in the next weeks. School council members work together to support and enhance student learning. They provide a way for members of the community to consult with and offer advice to principals and school boards.

School councils are legislated under the Education Act and are mandatory for all schools in the public education system
